Education is a Journey... Not a Race
Welcome to our first grade classroom! First grade is an exciting and demanding year of growth and learning for children. They will be expanding their knowledge of the skills they acquired in kindergarten. They will be independent and responsible for their daily routines. Please discuss your child's day with them and encourage them to take ownership of their learning, behavior and homework.
Check your child's daily folder each day for important information from the school, how your child is doing and ways you can help at home. Continue to practice sight words, reading, writing words, and writing sentences. It is crucial that each child be able to hear the sounds in a word and write the letters those sounds represent on paper. Hearing sounds in words is the best predictor of future reading success. Read, read, read and read some more!!! Time spent reading together and writing stories is never wasted.
THE MORE YOU READ... THE SMARTER YOU GET!!
I appreciate all you do to ensure your child's success in school and thank you for your involvement! You and I teaming up together is a crucial link in your child's total success in learning.
Please contact me any time by phone or e-mail with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Mrs.Peterson~
